Cable Car Sky Dining at Mount Faber Lodge and the Experience Above the City

Wide-angle front-facing shot from inside Singapore cable car showing sunset skyline, Mount Faber Lodge aerial view, harbor cruise ship and cityscape – Cable Car Sky Dining experience Singapore.

I’ve lived in Singapore my whole life, but there's something about seeing the city from a suspended glass box that completely shifts your perspective. I visited Cable Car Sky Dining at Mount Faber Lodge on a Thursday around 6:30 PM, specifically hoping to catch the golden hour.

It’s a dining experience I’ve always been curious about, though I admit I was slightly skeptical. I often wonder if these novelty dinners rely entirely on the view to compensate for mediocre food.

The Ambiance: Intimacy in the Sky

Stepping into the private cabin, the first thing I noticed was the absolute intimacy of the setup. It's incredibly compact—just a small dining table nestled tightly between two seats. While it limits your movement, that snugness actually adds to the exclusive, romantic vibe.

Once the doors slide shut, the chaotic noise of the city completely fades, replaced by the quiet, rhythmic mechanical hum of the cables.

As we glided over the harbor, the sunset view painting the water in deep oranges and purples was genuinely breathtaking. A quick heads-up, though: the cabin's AC was surprisingly strong, and I actually had to pull my jacket over my shoulders halfway through the ride.

The Food: A Mixed Bag of Hits and Misses

We opted for the premium 4-course set menu, which came to about $288++ per person.

  • Lobster Thermidor: The standout of the evening. The lobster meat was wonderfully tender and bathed in a rich, buttery sauce with a cheesy indulgence that wasn’t overly heavy. While elegantly plated, the portion was undeniably small—a recurring theme of the night.
  • Angus Beef Tenderloin: The kitchen nailed the texture, with a beautifully charred exterior and a juicy, perfectly medium-rare center. The flavors were solid and seasoning spot-on, but it lacked the "wow" factor. At fine-dining prices, you expect perfection, and this dish fell just short.
  • Chocolate Lava Cake: Dessert was a warm, gooey delight. Cutting into the cake released a thick ribbon of dark chocolate that paired beautifully with a cold vanilla scoop. The hot-and-cold contrast was a sensory treat as the city lights flickered on below us.

The Service: Impressive Yet Rushed

The service is a fascinating, highly coordinated logistical dance. The staff at Mount Faber Lodge are exceptionally professional, guiding you smoothly through the boarding process and course transitions.

However, the physical rotation of the cable car dictates the meal's pacing, which felt a bit rushed. I found myself eating my steak faster than usual to ensure my plate was clear before the station stop for the dessert swap.

Practical Tips for Your Visit

  • Expect to spend $200–$350+ per person, depending on your menu choice.
  • Advance booking is a must, especially for weekend slots.
  • Take a taxi or private hire car to Mount Faber Lodge—parking is limited.
  • For the best experience, book a weekday sunset slot. It’s quieter, with no long pre-boarding waits.

The Final Take

Cable Car Sky Dining leans firmly into experience over execution. The true value lies in the setting—suspended above the city, wrapped in panoramic views—where the sense of occasion naturally elevates the meal. While the food plays a supporting role, the atmosphere delivers something far more memorable.
